Hi Ladies,
This past week when we met, Amey brought up knowing our Raverly number. I knew nothing about this. Anyway, it's cool to know what number you are. It's associated with when you joined Ravelry.

So do you want to know your Ravelry Number? I’m #4463

Ok, follow these directions…

Go to your profile page, use the keys on your keyboard,
press the direction keys Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right
then the letter keys b a.

It will appear under the date you joined Ravelry. The screen may move a bit when you start and it may take a couple of tries. Also, it won’t stay there when you leave the page. So write it down. :)

Have fun!

Podcasts we like

Hi fellow knit nuts!  We talked about podcasts at Nova's today and I wanted to compile a list of what we listen to.  I don't know if y'all can edit my post.  If not, and you add your favorites to the comments, I'll edit this with the additions.  Sound good?

Curious Handmade - Helen is a knitter and knitting pattern designer living in London, UK

The Knitmore Girls - Gigi and Jasmin are a mother/daughter pair in central California

ACTuallyKNITting - Michelle is a knitter and actress living in North Carolina

StoryWonk - Alastair and Lani (and others at times) discuss story and story elements.  Amey has listened to Alastair's series on Harry Potter which examined the the plot, characters, themes and ideas of the first two books.  I'm guessing the other podcasts about the other books/shows would also be good.  I found them aimed at adults, but with family friendly language.

Shinybees - "a podcast for those who like their knitting, yarn and comedy in equally large measures!" - Jo is a knitter and businesswoman in Scotland

Welcome to Night Vale - "a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events." Amey has listened to this.  Don't expect logic.  Maybe read this:

2KnitLitChicks - Barb and Tracie are another mother/daughter pair in California who talk about knitting and what they're reading

GeekyGirlsKnit - C.C and Dami are a mother/daughter pair (Dami is a high schooler) who do a video podcast.  They post their podcasts on youtube, but there are video links on their website so you can watch them right there.

Serial - from the creators of This American Life - it follows a single news-type story (non-fiction) over the course of several weeks.  The two seasons they have up so far have had a crime focus.  Amey has listened to the first season.  This American Life is a radio show from WBEZ in Chicago with stories set around a theme.

August 2, 2014

It's been a while since I've posted anything here and I am sorry that I've been lacking. :( Remember, that all of you have posting privileges here on our group blog. If you need help just ask! Our group continues to grow as we have had a few new members lately. Welcome to all of you!

Today along with myself (Connie) we had Debbie, Amanda, Wendy and Sue in attendance. Welcome to Sue as she is one of our newest!

Sue brought many baby hats to show us that she has been knitting for charity. I'm sorry that I forgot to get a picture Sue.

I was working on finishing up the blankie part on another "Oogly" security blanket.

Amanda brought her daughter's finished Christmas stocking.
Wendy was working on a new baby blanket, but also brought an adorable baby sweater to show us.

Debbie was full steam ahead on her cross stitch blanket and she brought a pretty scarf to show us.

Overall we had a great time together today and we missed a lot of you and hope to see you next time!

Hope you all have a fiberlicious day!

Knit in Public Day Trip

June 8th, 2013

Our trip to Denver this past Saturday, June 8th for Knit in Public day was so much fun! Debbie and Donna met me in Mint Hill and we loaded up our chairs and headed up to Denver. We stopped first at my sister and her husbands store, (Wild Bird Mart) to pick up Kory who met us there.

We all then traveled a little ways down the road to shop at Time to Unwind. We got there a little after 10 am and they were gearing up for their fashion show that was taking place at 1 pm. They had 2 tents set up outside and the first thing that caught our eyes were the 2 columns out front that had been yarn bombed! Donna snapped this picture of one of the columns.

They let us in the back to see all the items that were going to be shown in the fashion show. There were so many items and they were all just gorgeous! All the ladies at the shop were very helpful and we had fun looking at all the goodies the shop had to offer. We also were able to enter the giveaway that they had for the fashion show even though we weren't going to be there and they had a little bowl up front where we chose a little piece of folded paper that gave us a discount on our purchase. That was a nice unexpected surprise.

We then headed back to the bird store to knit in public. There is a BBQ restaurant 2 doors down from the bird store so we all got some lunch first. They had a nice place to sit inside. Once we were done, we walked down to set up our chairs to knit. Alex and Kim greeted us and Alex had the front of the store ready for us to set up our chairs.

The weather held up and we didn't have any rain and although it was very sunny, there was a breeze and so we weren't at all hot. We all enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours knitting. I helped Debbie with a short crochet lesson and my mom helped Donna.
We both decided that we needed a simpler crochet pattern to teach them to read. So they pulled out their trusty knitting projects. LOL

My family decided that Kory reminded them so much of my daughter Jennifer, so I'm claiming to be her second mom now. Hope you don't mind Kory?
Overall we had a wonderful day and I'm so happy that Debbie, Donna and Kory could join me to knit in public.

I hope that next year more of you can come out to join us!

I'm looking forward to it already.

I also want to say thanks again to Alex and Kim for letting us come and sit out front at their store Wild Bird Mart to knit. We really enjoyed it!
I was happy that my mom got to come and crochet with us as an honorary Knit Nut for the day. My niece Alexis also stopped by and brought cute little Bentley to say hello!

That's my niece Alexis at the beginning and the little white fur ball is cute Bentley!

 Until next year.....

June 1st, 2013

We enjoyed another great meetup the first Saturday of June. I am late in getting these pictures up. Sorry!  Here are a few photos of that meetup and the projects we were working on.

Donna M. showing her crocheted blanket.

This is Kathy one of our newer members showing off a crochet shrug that she had just finished. It looks beautiful on you Kathy!

Kory finishing up a dishcloth and Sandy working on her blanket.

Wendy still adding to her temperature throw. It's coming along beautifully. Such small stitches it almost looks woven.

and Debbie is also knitting a blanket. I love how the yarn stripes automatically.

May 4th, 2013

We had another awesome turnout for Knit Nuts this past Saturday!
Wendy invited her friend Elizabeth to join us and we are looking forward to getting to know her better.

Maureen and Kory who are both fairly new to our group were able to come as well and we are enjoying their "young" ness...LOL Donna Mitchell has been able to come and visit with us lately and it's been nice having her so often.

Sandy stays very busy with her church and music work, but she has also been able to attend quite a few meetups lately. We love all that she is able to share with us.
Wendy, Kim, Donna Van Sant, Rose and I were also so happy to be there as well.

Amanda was able to come and she brought her new little boy named Blake to show us. He is so adorable
and he was so quiet! We all shared time getting to hold and cuddle with him. It's been a long time since I held one that little. Thanks for bringing him Amanda!

Kim and Wendy encouraged us to save up our money for the TKGA show that is being held in Concord in October. Members get in for FREE and get a discount on classes, so I finally decided to register with them. The dues are $30 and you can sign up online here. You also get I think 4 issues of their Cast On magazine and some other goodies available online at their website. They won't have info on the Concord show until later on. We have also been discussing meeting at Rose's home and driving to the show together. I'm sure we'll talk more on that at a later date.
Since we have been meeting back at Dilworth Coffee (Mint Hill Cafe) and they have been so gracious in letting us meet I thought it would be nice to say thank you by giving them some dishcloths to use in the coffee shop. So, anyone interested in sharing a dishcloth, please have one ready and bring it to the June 1st meeting. I'll have a card for us to sign and we'll present them all together.

Also, Donna (Van Sant) has mentioned wanting to have a yarn/book swap. So on that same day June 1st we will have our first official SWAP! If you have yarn to give away please have that separate from yarn or books you want to sell. This would be a great way to reduce our yarn hoard and get some great deals on some (new to us) yarn/book (s)! Please have your yarn or books marked with the price you want! Also, be sure to have your checkbook or cash to pay each lady you purchase from. We will all meet in the parking lot at our cars to shop. There just isn't enough room in the coffee house. We'll have the swap promptly at 2 pm, so be sure to get there on time. You don't want to miss a bargain! Afterwards, please put your purchases in your car!

If the weather looks to be rainy, then we'll postpone the swap. I'll let you know if that's the case.
Ok, well I think that's all for now....see you all soon!

Our Meetup Spot has changed...

Hi Ladies,
Just a quick post to let you know that we are no longer meeting at Madison's Coffee House in Indian Trail. When we arrived for our first meetup in January, the room that we normally meet in was booked for a baby shower. We didn't find this out until we showed up. I asked if we could still meet and use the tables out front, so that day that is what we did.

Then, on February 14th I just happened to message the owner on FB to make sure we could meet that following Saturday, February 16th. She didn't get back to me until 1 hour before we were to meet on that Saturday! I explained to her that we need more notice as it would be hard to contact all of us that would be planning to attend. I'm sure that some of us, run errands, or shop before coming to the meetup. If I hadn't messaged her then again, we would have shown up without a spot to knit. She did respond back with an apology and stated she has put us on her calendar. I had already thought she had us on her calendar?

So, that is why we needed to find another place to meet. We decided to meet again back at Dilworth Coffee at Hoods Cross Roads. We actually were meeting there back in 2008. After we met there we moved to The Coffee Garden and were there until the business was forced out for a new Subway. That is when we starting meeting at Madisons Coffee House.

So, for now (and hopefully some time to come) we'll be meeting back at Dilworth Coffee House soon to be called Mint Hill Cafe! I've added a slide show top right of the blog showing photos of what Dilworth Coffee looks like inside. We have a nice spot to sit and knit and they have wonderful coffee and food there. Colleen the owner has graciously welcomed us back and has put us on her calendar. She reserves our spot and puts out a sign telling other patrons that we will be meeting there.

We meet the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month and Wendy and I send out an email reminder about mid week or a day or so before the Saturday we meet.
